Just Outside the Studio Window

Most mornings, when I walk out to the studio, I never know what might be waiting outside the window. Living along the East Fork River in rural southern Ohio, we get a surprising variety of visitors—deer and their fawns, flocks of wild turkeys, raccoons, opossums, cicadas, foxes, hummingbird moths, and even the occasional bald eagle. Some wander right past the studio; others keep their distance along the woods or water.

I’m certainly no wildlife photographer — most of these photographs were taken through a window or from just outside the door. But these unexpected encounters are one of the pleasures of working here. They provide a welcome interruption, a reason to look up from whatever I’m doing, and a reminder that there is always something going on beyond the studio walls.
